HoursMon-Thu 08:00-17:00, Fri 08:00-13:00 (39hrs per week)
SalaryStarting at £12.00 per hour (dependent on experience)

Main Duties

  • Create CNC programs utilising both CAD/CAM software and manual programming techniques to achieve efficient and effective manufacture of machined parts on Star, Citizen and Turnus Sliding Head CNC Lathes.
  • Investigate and establish appropriate tooling and workholding solutions.
  • Production of NPI ‘First Run’ (new product) ensuring that best possible programming / workholding and tooling solutions are being used.
  • Create documentation and tool-kits as required to ensure future production runs can be carried out effectively by colleagues.
  • Post-production kitting and inspection of tooling for wear or damage. Ensuring any items for replacement or repair are identified, and this information is communicated to the Production Manager.
  • Complete updates of tooling and process information following the production run to ensure all relevant information is accurately captured and available for future setting of the component production.
  • To input daily setting and production information into the production scheduling system and update the visual management systems, including the accurate recording of setting pieces and production scrap issues.
  • Operation and management of machines during production runs, ensuring high standards of quality are always maintained.
  • Management of machine tooling during production, managing tool wear offsets and counters.
  • Completion of ‘In Production’ inspection and the accurate recording of results. This will include the use of first principles inspection methods and various inspection measurement systems including shadowgraph, OGP and CCM equipment.
  • Monitor daily production rates for the designated machine tools, escalating issues to the Production Manager and Quality Team where necessary.
  • To engage with the NPI and Continuous Improvement team to develop production strategies for new product and to further develop production process to achieve robust and efficient production of components.
  • To carry out the TPM process for daily, weekly, and monthly machine maintenance. Ensuring all records are updated, all actions are recorded and reported.
  • Maintain the working area and equipment to the highest standard of cleanliness and organization, in line with the companies 5S processes.

Other Responsibilities

  • To engage with the positive H&S culture within Technoturn and support the continued promotion of a safe working environment.
  • Work collaboratively with the management team to identify opportunities and deliver improvement across the production process, with specific focus on quality, delivery and cost.
  • To provide support to colleagues and other production departments as and when required.
  • To provide information for quotations including special tooling/equipment, technical risks and any further relevant information to support the creation of quotes.
  • To attend various meetings to support the business operations.
  • To ensure all relevant information for production under your control is kept up-to-date and saved as required.
  • Promote and demonstrate best practice in all aspects of the role.
  • Continue to develop skills and technical knowledge of production processes.
  • To support the forward thinking and continuous improvement culture throughout the business

Key Skills, Knowledge and Personal Attributes

  • Strong background in Sliding Head CNC machining
  • Knowledge and experience in design & creation of 3d models.
  • Ability to develop complex machining strategies and plan production processes including the selection and specification of workholding and tooling
  • High attention to detail in all aspects of work including Programming, Setting, Production and Quality Assurance.
  • Strong understanding of NC programs and structure. Ability to read program code and identify programming errors.
  • Strong knowledge of materials, tooling, tooling geometry, tooling grades, and cutting data.
  • Ability to use measurement equipment and a strong knowledge of first principles measurement devices and techniques.
  • Ability to prioritize personal workload to ensure efficiency in completing tasks.
  • Ability to work in high pressure situations and continue to demonstrate good teamwork.
  • Good IT Skills, use of MS Office in particular Excel.
  • Good communication skills and a team player.
  • Good workspace organization and tidiness.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to innovate to find solutions.
  • A can-do attitude and a willingness to learn.
